This past weekend Marissa and I travelled through Limerick to the West coast of Ireland to the wonderful city of Galway. I think it's my favorite Irish city so far because of the natural beauty of the surrounding water and Aran islands mixed with the quaint and homey feel of the town.
I also ate at two of the cutest cafes I've ever seeen in my life. The first was a combination garden shop and cafe so the sitting area was full of flowers and plants of all kinds.
The second was inside the Spanish Arch building on the seaside and was established in the late 1500s. It had an antique, eclectic feel and the pastries and coffee were divine! Inspired by a big family of food lovers, I've started to collect the menus at places that I go and really enjoy. This cottage cafe by the sea was a definite must for the collection!
We walked to Salthill Park Saturday afternoon to join the Mumford and Sons festival activities. There were bands playing on two stages and we were there early enough to grab a spot on the first row which was extremely exciting because I was so close to the band it was unreal! I refused to even leave to go to the bathroom...mind over matter, I was staying in that first row.I wasn't dissapointed as they were even better live than on CD, a truly talented band who seemed to enjoy every moment they were on stage.
The Vaccines are another good band who played before the Mumford and Sons finale:
On Sunday, we visited the town's outdoor farmers market (of course!) adjacent to a whole shop of wheels of cheese. Note to self- a checklist item in life is to buy a whole wheel of cheese and finish it off. We explored the city some more and then headed out to return to our Ireland home in Cork. It was a successful and fun trip with absolutely gorgeous weather! I can't believe we got so lucky those two days.
Morgan is on her way to Ireland currently and will get in around 5 pm after a bit of travel delays. I am extremely excited to see her and cannot wait to show her around the city. Her blogs should start soon from Italy after that and give a little diversity to these travels.
Today is her 21st birthday though so the next blog should be about her celebrations Irish style. Happy 21st Birthday Morgan!!!
Oh my! Lovely cottage cafes and outdoor markets! I think that I can see a second business in your future....or one that maybe you can invest in and I can help manage ; )

DeleteHayley,
ReplyDeleteSteven is so jealous that you went to see Mumford and sons! He says they are one of his favorites. Glad you are finding such wonderful places to visit. Keep a list so you can help me build the itinerary for our next trip. Love, Les
A truely wonder country and the people are so proud of their country and it's history. Leslie and I love it and would buy a vacation house there, if we could afford it.
